Crop or pad a vertical video
A landscape shot can fit inside a portrait canvas or fill it by cropping. Choose by what must remain visible, then inspect both real exports.
Worked example
Measured local sample, October 4, 2026: the 960 × 540, 13.750-second H.264/AAC source is 140,184 bytes. Fit export at 270 × 480 is 132,866 bytes; crop export is 135,439 bytes. Both retain 13.750 seconds and H.264/AAC. These are fixture results, not a quality guarantee.

Start with the landscape sample
Download the original landscape sample below, then open the resizer and choose “Try a sample”. It is an owned demonstration asset, not a customer video. Uploads are limited to 100 MB and five minutes; export is H.264 MP4 with audio retained when present.
Fit preserves the whole shot
Set width 270 and height 480, choose Fit with padding and set Padding color to black. Process and download the result. A 16:9 picture occupies a narrow band inside the portrait canvas, leaving padding above and below. This preserves content at both sides.
Crop fills the portrait canvas
Run the same sample again at 270 × 480 with Crop to fill. Leave both Crop focus sliders centred, then move them if the subject is off-centre. The picture fills the canvas and the sides are discarded. The output is a new file; keep the original.
Verify the exported file
Play the whole output, inspect text and subjects near each edge, and compare a circle or grid for distortion. Use the reported dimensions, duration and bytes to verify the result. Inspect audio sync when speech is present. A larger canvas cannot restore source detail.
Check overlays before captions
Preview an approximate safe-zone guide over a frame. The organic TikTok guide derives from a third-party July 2026 check and varies with device/interface context. Hide guide layers for clean video exports. YouTube’s player adapts to portrait and square video; that is separate from interface safe-zone placement.
Try the original files
- Open the resizer and choose the landscape sample.
- Export Fit with padding and Crop to fill at the same 270 × 480 dimensions.
- Play and compare the resulting files; inspect the crop and metadata.
